Harold Waite, "Billowing clouds"

Born in Croydon in 1870, Harold Waite was the son of Reverend Edward Waite, MA, and his wife Cleopha Julia (née Dukes. He was one of six sons and two daughters and younger brother of landscape painter, Edward Wilkins Waite. His grandfather was the miniaturist William Watkin Waite and his father was an amateur watercolourist. Harold attended the Royal Academy Schools between 1890 and 1893 where in his final year he was awarded the Creswick Prize and the Turner Gold Medal. He painted extensively in Kent and Surrey and along the south coast depicting the romantic English landscape. This private collection of works belongs to the family of the artist.
