Centralpalatset, which faces the grand Örebro Castle in Sweden, has been one of the city’s most exclusive addresses ever since it was built in 1913. Its Jugend style and the massive clock on the façade have made it a true landmark in the city of 160,000 inhabitants. It is here, on the top floor, that Anna Kvarnström and her family reside.
“I moved here five years ago, after separating from my children’s father. I fell for the turn-of-the-century architecture and the large windows overlooking the castle and the water surrounding it. The rooms are arranged in a row, and many of the original details are still intact.”
Anna Kvarnström runs an advertisement agency in Örebro, a city located in the middle of Sweden, 20 miles from Stockholm. At the same time as she is managing her growing Instagram account.

Anna Kvarnström's favorite part of the home is the inviting kitchen island.
Scandinavian Colours
The apartment was carefully renovated three years ago, and Anna Kvarnström has remained true to the style she’s always loved: a mix of old and new, combined with a simple Scandinavian colour palette.
“Brown, beige, grey and white – those are my colours. I’ve tried embracing a more colourful style but realised that it just isn’t me.”
Is there a part of your home that you’re especially fond of?
“The kitchen. It’s not very big, but it’s incredibly cosy. We have a kitchen island that I absolutely love, and there’s also a balcony with a magical view of the castle.”

A Timeless Mix of Old and New
Anna Kvarnström says the blend of vintage and modern furniture is what creates the warm, lived-in feeling in her home. She especially likes antique dining tables paired with contemporary chairs.
“But when it comes to lamps, I’m all about modern design. I just bought my second Gatto lamp from Flos.”
What second-hand items are you always on the lookout for?
“Paintings. And kitchen things – porcelain, platters, old baker’s peels. My latest find was a wall-mounted candlestick I discovered at a flea market. I’m also always on the hunt for bedside tables with marble tops.”

What’s your best vintage or auction find?
“The wooden dining table we have at our country cottage. I bought it through Auctionet, and it’s designed by Børge Mogensen. It has the perfect shade of wood. Mogensen really created so many beautiful pieces.”

The large windows were one of the reasons Anna Kvarnström fell for the apartment.
