Photograph, stamp-signed on the reverse of the mount. Signed and dated -92.
40.5 x 40 cm.
Mat: 56 x 54.5 cm.
Provenance: The estate of the photographer Nils-Erik Wikebäck (1934–2025)
Deep inside a dark storage room, a long-hidden treasure was found – hundreds of vintage photographs, taken and developed by the artist himself. Images from the late 1960s onwards, which have lain in silence for over half a century, bear witness to an artistry that operated in the shadows but with a natural place in the photographic movement of its time.
Born in Södra Viker and raised in Lennartsfors, Nils-Erik Wikebäck developed his visual sense early on and worked as an autodidact to achieve a personal and technically accomplished expression. His breakthrough came in 1966 when he was accepted into the influential Bildgruppen CAMUS, whose international successes came to shape his own career as well.
Over the years, his photography was recognized in some thirty countries, with several prestigious awards and exhibitions in Europe, the USA, and Japan.
Nils-Erik Wikebäck appears as a photographer's photographer – an uncompromising perfectionist, where precision and integrity were guiding principles in every image.
Unframed. The overall impression is good.
