Resale right is also known as droit de suite.

By European law (EG directive 2001/84/EG), a resale fee applies when selling certain works of art onward. The fee is for the artist, or their heirs for 70 years after the artist's death.

The fee is usually paid on the buyer invoice, but for items sold by a Spanish auction house, the seller pays instead.

The fee amounts to 5% of the hammered price or lower.

The calculation is slightly different based on the auction house country. You can read more below. Please note that these pages may not be in English.

If this fee applies, the item page will inform you about it, and it will be included in the total amount you see before confirming a bid.
