MAC HAMILTON. Self-portrait.

When viewing Mac Hamilton's self-portrait from 1980, one's thoughts naturally turn to Axel Fridell and his "Self-portrait in a sports cap II" from 1933, a work which in turn can be said to be inspired by Rembrandt's self-portrait from 1648. In this way, Mac Hamilton's self-portrait can be seen as a link in a long chain of graphic self-portraits in art history.

In the collections of the Moderna Museet, there is another portrait etching by Mac Hamilton titled "Kåpa". It was executed in the same year as the current self-portrait and, like this one, in an edition of only 35 copies.

Mac Hamilton studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts 1978-83. He has primarily become known for his still lifes, executed in both paintings and color woodcuts. In the summer of 2008, Mac Hamilton had a widely noted exhibition at Prins Eugen's Waldemarsudde.
