Greta Gerell (1888—1978) was a Swedish artist whose painting is characterized by a warm coloristic expression and a strong sense of everyday poetry. Educated in Stockholm, she continued her studies in Paris, where she took impressions of modern French painting and developed a freer view of colour and form.
Gerell is particularly known for his interiors, portraits and cityscapes — often with motifs from Stockholm — where light and the atmosphere of the room take center stage. Her works are characterized by a soft but at the same time conscious color treatment, in which the denominations interplay in harmonious compositions.
