Corneille, born Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo (1922—2010), was a Dutch artist and co-founder of the Cobra movement. Taking clear influences from Surrealism's ideas of automatism, and with a shared interest in Art Brut such as Jean Dubuffet, Corneille and the other Cobra artists developed an expression that deliberately broke with academic conventions. The result was a seemingly childish and naive imagery, in which colorful animals and anthropomorphic figures populate a fantasy-rich and vibrant world.
Condition
Not examined out of frame. Slightly yellowed, occasional insignificant speck.
