Frame dimensions: 59 x 82 cm.
Bore Forsbäck (1909—1994) belongs to the regionally rooted figures of Finnish visual art whose works are characterized by a deep presence in the landscape, the human being and the rhythms of everyday life. Born in Snappertuna and with life anchored in the Ekenäs region, his artistry was shaped in close interaction with nature, especially the archipelago around Älgö and its rich world of motifs.
Forsbäck was educated at the Finnish Art Society's drawing school (Ateneum) and the university's drawing hall, with complementary studies at the Stockholm School of Advertising. He made his debut in 1933 and established himself with solo exhibitions already during the 1930s, including at Strindberg Art Hall in Helsinki, where his work was praised for its naturalness in form and colour.
Stylistically, Forsbäck moved from a classically realistic tone towards an increasingly stylized and sometimes almost cubist world of form. Oil painting was his primary medium, but he occasionally worked in watercolour as well. Regardless of technique, his works are distinguished by a vivid color language and compositional balance — often with motifs from the landscapes, shorelines and sea reflections of the Finnish west coast, but also from the small town life of Ekenäs.
Forsbäck's artistic career spanned several decades, during which he was also active as an educator in Ekenäs and Karis. A fire at his home in 1994 destroyed much of his output, but his work lives on in public settings, private homes and as part of the collective visual memory of the Ekenästrakten.
Usual wear.
