Bengt Orup born in Lindesberg 1916. Lived and worked from 1941 until his death in 1996 in Domsten, just north of Helsingborg. Educated 1933-38 at Otte Sköld's painting school in Stockholm and the academies Grande Chaumièr and Colarossi in Paris. Orup was one of the pioneers of post-war modernism in Sweden. As early as 1946, he experimented with a pure, geometric world of form, which was linked to learning concrete. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, he created series of concrete paintings with a refined, simple play between geometric shapes and strong contrasts. Bengt Orup was artistic director of Johansfors glassworks 1952-1962 and 1967-1973. In the intervening period, he was attached to Hyllinge Glasbruk in Skåne from 1963-1966. The glass came for periods to dominate his business. He designed everyday glasses, such as crockery, bowls, vases, carafes.
