Ernst Eitner was a founding member of the Hamburg Artists' Club founded in 1897, an association of young artists who wanted to establish open-air painting in northern Germany following the example of the French Impressionists. Eitner's works include the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Altona Museum, the Schleswig-Holstein State Museum Schloss Gottorf and many others.
