August Harald Östergren (1888 - 1974), artist, decorator and designer, born in Stockholm on March 1, 1888.
1913-1917 Harald Östergren studied at the Art Academy in Stockholm. He then continued his studies in Germany. In 1920, together with Edvin Ollers and Gabriel Burmeister, he founded an experimental ceramics workshop in Vittinge. In 1923 he was employed as artistic director at Upsala-Ekeby AB, where he designed and decorated ceramic objects until 1947. Harald Östergren can be described as a pure naturalist in his role as a draftsman and painter. He got his motifs mainly from Öland and Gotland, but was also a very skilled portrait painter.
Harald Östergren has participated in a number of group exhibitions over the years, including at the Röhsska Museum's art exhibition in Gothenburg 1957, Upplands Art Association exhibitions 1936, -39 and -42, in Gävle -46 and in Öland's Skogsby -55 and -56. His art is represented on i.a. Uppsala Art Museum and the Uppland Museum.
