Carl Herman Benckert J:r (1838 -1909).
Swedish furniture and interior joiner of the old school and strong opponent of the mechanization of furniture carpentry at the end of the guild system in 1846.
CH Benckert J:r obtained his journeyman's certificate in 1855 and then studied in Paris where he learned to work with intarsia. In 1866 he received a bronze medal for his exhibited works at the Stockholm Exhibition.
Between the years 1895-1899, CH was hired Benckert J:r to manufacture the wooden furnishings in Hallwylska palatset, i.a. he carried out the marquetry in the small drawing room, the decoration in the china room and the reception room's antique Swiss oak paneling which was renovated. The cloakroom's walnut panels with marquetry were done by his wife Sigrid Benckert, as well as the cloakroom's pine panels, the bedchamber's boasing and the large entrance door. The orders that Benckert received for new productions were copies of older furniture, so-called style furniture, when Wilhelmina von Hallwyl furnished the home with antique furniture and art objects in architect-designed rooms in historicized styles. Benckert also made all the beds, shaving tables and wash basins for the house's bedrooms, guest rooms and servants' quarters. Many other small items, such as towel holders and picture frames, were also manufactured by Benckert's workshop.
Use- and age-related wear, crest on the mirror with damage, slightly faded on the top of the disc.
