Hubertus Giebe (1953), 'Der Zwerg', 2002, color lithograph, test print, titled in pencil in the lower center and signed and dated on the right: '2002', image size: 69 x 88 cm.
The Dresden painter, draftsman and graphic artist Hubertus Giebe is one of the most important representatives of an expressive figurative painting of the younger German post-war generation.
After his studies, he spent a year as a master student with Bernhard Heisig, the old master of neo-baroque, lively worker portraits, historical pictures and nude scenarios. Giebe's world of figures, this expressively tense assemblage of people oscillating between ecstasy and pupation, reduction, seems like a sober, pessimistic response to Bernhard Heisig's vibrant pictorial world.
Hubertus Giebe has established himself as a master of experimental character and historical images with symbolic content. Contents of his pictures are grinning dwarfs, crucified people, mannequins, crosses, sickles, wheels. Above all, however, heads that develop painterly from palettes as well as from skulls.
Age-appropriate condition.
