Ola Billgren born 1940 in Copenhagen. Billgren was self-taught and was educated by his parents, the artist couple Hans and Grete Billgren. Billgren worked in genres such as graphics, watercolor, collage, photography, film and scenography. He was also a writer and cultural writer. Billgren was very multifaceted in his creation and cultivated in his art the relationship between art and reality. In the 60's he took the step from abstract expressionism to photographic realism. Eventually, his paintings became something in between the abstract and the photorealistic, resulting in romantic landscapes, where he explored the relationship between light and color. The shapes were dissolved and the colors were reduced to a monochrome, solid color surface, which was richly machined and varied. In the late 1980s, he returned to the urban environment in large urban landscapes, often painted from a high perspective but with the same impressionist touch as in his landscape paintings.
