Description

49x63 cm Max Walter Svanberg 1912-94 beginning his artistic career as a commercial painter. In 1931 he started at the Skåne painting school in Malmö and in 1933 Otte Sköld's painting school in Stockholm.

Svanberg was a unique and odd artist in Swedish art life, which can be seen in his paintings. During the 1940s and 50s, he was recognized internationally.

The French artist André Breton, one of the leaders of the surrealist movement in Paris, takes Max Walter Svanberg to heart. In Svanberg's art, the large, heavy theatrical curtain of reality is drawn away and the viewers are invited into a world, separate from the external, from the mundane and clearly realistic. Svanberg exposes an inner scene where the transformation of realism stands in total contrast and confrontation with the familiar and traditional. The dream visions tear themselves free from their shackles and are allowed to move in all their freedom, with the help of poetry and beauty he wants to tell about the expanded world that exists within man, about his emotional life, sexuality and drive that can be discerned in his images.

Svanberg belonged to the surrealist group Imaginisterna, which consisted of seven Scanian painters; CO Hultén, Anders Österlin, Gösta Kriland and Gudrun Åhlberg. later Bertil Lundberg and Bertil Gadö were also added.
