Carl Nathanael af Klercker was born in 1734 in Skåne as Carl Nathanael Klerck, in 1780 he was ennobled and took the name af Klercker. During Gustav III's Russian war (1788–90), he was one of the king's most used officers, active as lieutenant general in, among other things, Vyborg, Russia. Af Klercker died in 1817 in Stockholm.
The leaf is taken out of an older frame, but the back of this old frame remains. There you read that the painting was purchased in an antique shop in Stockholm in 1936.
