Beskrivning

KALMÁN, EMMERICH ( 1882-1953), Hungarian composer of operettas. Typed letter signed, to Nils Grevillius, dated Paris 21 November 1939 (where he had fled from Vienna). Kalmán writes about the concert (his "Teufelsreiter" ) which was broadcasted from Stockholm in the radio, and was fascinated and very happy to hear this fine version. Kalmán is sad not being able to come to Stockholm [because of WW II], "Ich bin nun abgekränkt, ohne Arbeit und ohne Musik in Paris". Folded, c. 270x205 mm; 1 card (businesscard), signed, written in pencil in German.

LEHAR FRANZ: (1870-1948) Austro-Hungarian Composer of operettas. A fine signed and inscribed photograph, the image showing the composer seated in a half-length formal pose. Signed in the margin with full name, in blue fountain pen ink, with an inscription in German: "Herrn Hofkappellmeister Grevillius sendet herzliche Weichnachtsgrüsse 1943..." Stamped verso Franz Lehar, Bad Ischl, Leharkai 8. C. 170x110 mm.

NIKISCH, Arthur (1855-1922), Hungarian conductor. Signed photograph, with full name to Nils Grevillius, dated Stockholm 15.IV 1919, c. 195x130 mm., some creases, some fading.

FELIX WEINGARTNER (1863-1942), Austrian conductor, composer and pianist. Signed photograph (on postcard), with full name to Nils Grevillius, dated Wien 1922 [?], c. 140x85 mm., some fading.

BIRGIT NILSSON (1918-2005), Swedish opera singer, soprano. Signed photograph to Nils Grevillius, in Swedish, undated. C. 255x210 mm.

Provenance: Nils Grevillius (1893-1970), Swedish conductor and violinist. Amongst others he was the first conductor at the Royal Swedish Opera and conducted regularly there from 1922 to 1953.
