MORIMITSU (盛光), 1st gen., Shitoku (至徳, 1384-1387), Bizen – “Bishū Osafune Morimitsu” (備州長船盛光), “Morimitsu” (盛光), according to tradition the son of Tomomitsu (倫光) and the older brother of Moromitsu (師光), it is said that he was active from Ōan (応安, 1368-1375) to the beginning Ōei era (応永, 1394-1428)
MORIMITSU (盛光), 2nd gen., Ōei (応永, 1394-1428), Bizen – “Bishū Osafune Morimitsu” (備州長船盛光), “Morimitsu” (盛光), “Bishū Osafune Shūri no Suke Morimitsu” (備州長船修理亮盛光), “Shūri no Suke Morimitsu” (修理亮盛光), called Shūri no Suke (修理亮), together with Sakyō no Suke Yasumitsu (左京亮康光) he is considered as the most representative Ōei-Bizen smith, he was the son of the 1st gen. Morimitsu and we know date signatures from the tenth to the last year of Ōei (1403-1428), tachi have a normal mihaba, a chū-kissaki, and sakizori, hira-zukuri wakizashi measure about 39.4~42.2 cm, shinogi-zukuri wakizashi about 48.5~51.5 cm, tantō have a normally dimensioned sugata, muzori, and a nagasa of about 27.3 cm, the jigane is an itame mixed with mokume and bō-utsuri whereas the latter runs close above the yakigashira as it is typical for Ōei-Bizen, at later Ōei-Bizen smiths the utsuri moves more towards the shinogi, the hamon is a koshi-no-hiraita gunome-chōji or suguha in nioi-deki, rather few ashi and yō occur, the yakigashira of the gunome are somewhat roundish at Morimitsu whereas they are at Yasumitsu more pointed, we know simple horimono like hi, suken, and bonji, ō-wazamono, jō-saku ◎
MORIMITSU (盛光), 3rd gen., Eikyō (永享, 1429-1441), Bizen – “Bishū Osafune Morimitsu” (備州長船盛光), we know Morimitsu-blades with date signatures of the Eikyō era, they are attributed to the son of the 2nd gen, i.e. to the 3rd gen., the elements of the hamon are somewhat smaller and more densely arranged as at his precedessor, wazamono, jō-saku)
