In 1916, Sixten Bäckström - one of Veinge's own pioneers - started the company, having in the early 1900s helped secure the electricity and water supply for Veinge.
In time, Margit "Maia" Persson took over. The shop sold shoes and lamps - and for a while, even bicycles. Maia ran the business until 1976, but there was one thing that never quite suited her: sales.
So whatever didn't sell simply stayed put.
Box after box was carried off and ended up in the attic. There they remained. The years passed, the shop closed, and the shoes were nearly forgotten. But left behind were around 1,500 pairs of unused shoes, many still in their original boxes - an almost untouched time capsule of Swedish shoe manufacturing and retail throughout the 20th century.
In late August 2026, this improbable shoe treasure began to be unearthed and made its way to Laholms Auktionskammare.
