Stockholms Auktionsverk presents Lilla Kvalitén (“Small Quality”)! There’s plenty of quality here. But the auction is anything but small. The catalogue spans 630 lots.
Dripping with quality is the magnificent bowl by C G Hallberg. It’s a superb example of Swedish Art Nouveau silver craftsmanship. The piece, which stands just over 36 cm tall, would look wonderful on guild master Carl Lindborg’s chest of drawers, a small Stockholm piece veneered with amaranth, birch, jacaranda, and Karelian birch.
These two examples are shown alongside art, craftsmanship, and design from many centuries. The auction house’s specialists have handpicked elegant, handsome, sober, stylish, and delicate objects from the different epochs of history. As samples, we can mention Flora Danica porcelain, furniture by Josef Frank, Bruno Mathsson, and Alvar Aalto, Chinese porcelain, stoneware from Gustavsberg, prints by Olle Baertling, Swedish and oriental rugs, older Swedish silver, a very modern self-portrait by Ragnar Sandberg, and a Spanish mortar with up to 500 years on its shoulders. And alongside some cocktail sticks by Wiwen Nilsson, there’s an Empire inkstand in Blyberg porphyry with fire-gilded details. And so on.
A warm welcome!
