A warm welcome to Uppsala Auktionskammare and the Modern Sale
Here we are treated to beautiful colours and forms from the era of modernism. Sigrid Hjertén invites us to a moment of pleasant relaxation in the French countryside. From Wiwen Nilsson's studio comes a silver necklace with a rock crystal pendant. The flowing aesthetics of the turn of the century find expression in Emile Gallé's vases and stand in pleasing contrast to Jim Dine's prints.
There is good reason to pause at the 1930s. From that decade comes a range of wonderful pieces. Among them, Carin Nilsson's "Simmerska" in bronze from the great exhibition year of 1930. Nils Wedel's guitar from 1934 likewise. And then the specially commissioned country house chair from Nordiska Kompaniet, designed by the firm's chief architect for a client by the name of Appelqvist.
From Tove Jansson's Moominvalley come no fewer than 14 endearing – and highly individual – characters, from Svenskt Tenn high-quality furniture by Josef Frank, and from Orrefors, Erik Öhrström's thick-walled classic "Gondoljären".
A magnificent work of international calibre is Cooper & Gorfer's "Portrait of a Turning Girl". The same can be said of Faik Hassan's shepherdesses with sheep from 1975. And anyone wishing to celebrate Bastille Day may feel a particular affinity for the early work by Lars Norrman.
Welcome!
