At Crafoord Auctions Malmö, a forgotten artistic legacy comes to light as the theme Hugo Carlberg is presented. Born in 1880 in Vallsjö Parish, Småland, Carlberg—like so many others—made his way from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm to Paris, where he absorbed the continent’s modernism into his artistic lungs.
He primarily devoted himself to landscape painting, and in many of his works, one can clearly discern his fascination with light—so much so that the viewer might be tempted to call Carlberg a plein air painter.
At Crafoord Auctions Malmö, we journey from the distinctly French Blooming Fruit Trees, Coudeville, Normandy, painted in 1907, to the crisp late-winter landscapes of the 1930s and 1940s.
