Per-Johan Weidolf’s Collection – Theme Auction No. 2: Coins, Banknotes & Medals
Some collectors focus on one or two specific areas. Not Per-Johan Weidolf of Växjö.
He devoted his life to collecting across over forty different categories, and now Växjö Auktionskammare has the honour of presenting his remarkable life's work in a series of themed auctions.
This is Theme Auction No. 2, featuring Per-Johan’s extensive collection of coins, banknotes and medals.
For many years, Per-Johan was chairman of both the collectors’ club Virdarna and the Växjö Philatelic Society. He was deeply passionate about preserving the past and saw objects as vital links to our shared memory. He proudly called himself a super collector, and his voice was familiar to many in Radio Kronoberg, where he weekly introduced various collecting themes. In an interview with Smålandsposten, he once said:
“A lot of what I collect is driven by nostalgia—things that were around when I was a kid.”
Among his many passions, he had a near-obsessive interest in the narrow-gauge railway between Växjö and Västervik, amassing memorabilia related to the line. But that’s just the beginning. He also collected postcards, stamps, comic books, fire-fighting history, dog tax tags, cinema tickets, FIB’s Gyllene Bok, Wahlström’s youth novels, phone cards, telegrams, share certificates, train tickets and timetables, phone books, collectible cards, maps, medals, razors and razor blades, advertising items, radio licences, matchbox history, brewery labels… and more.
This current auction focuses on a large part of his coin, banknote, and medal collection, which includes great opportunities for collectors—like beautiful 19th-century banknotes from Swedish private banks.
Coming up next is a themed auction featuring his comic book collection, followed by his vast trove of stamps and postal marks, and finally, a finale sale covering a wide variety of his other collecting categories—packed with unique and unusual items.
Good luck and happy bidding!
