With great pleasure, Stockholms Auktionsverk presents a collection of works by the artist Anna Mizak, showcasing her fascinating sculptures and drawings.
Anna Mizak’s art revolves around humanity and the human body, with rest and motion being recurring themes in her work. Her early pieces featured an expressive language, sculpting powerful forms in bronze that hinted at the female figure. Over time, her style gradually became more simplified. The bodies grew thinner and were eventually reduced to symbols. Yet, the movement of the figure remains ever-present, perhaps even more pronounced in her later, simplified works. Figures running, striving forward, appear both in her sculptures and on paper, captured with the lightness of charcoal.
This auction includes exquisite examples of Mizak’s expressive bronzes, where faces and bodies emerge from the textured material. We also find beautifully simplified marble forms, as well as the slender, moving figures, both in sculpture and on paper, that came to define her artistic signature.
Anna Mizak was born in 1939 in Poland. She studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and later at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. In 1968, Mizak settled in Stockholm, where she worked as an artist until her passing in 2019. Her works are represented in notable collections, including the Moderna Museet.
We warmly welcome you to discover this tribute to Anna Mizak’s artistry at Stockholms Auktionsverk!
