At regular intervals, that carriage reappears outside Stockholms Auktionsverk Sickla, ready to take us on a Grand Tour of rarely seen splendor. This time, we pass through Paris and Rome, journeying down to the cultures of the Mediterranean with a stop in Egypt before turning homeward via Germany. A total of over 150 lots are presented.
The focus is more on genuine antiquities than on the tempting souvenirs of the 19th century. A winged scarab from the Ptolemaic period is displayed alongside a Hellenistic sculptural fragment. Several decorative ushabtis and papyrus fragments from Egyptian culture are offered, as well as Roman and Byzantine coins in silver and bronze.
Also worth mentioning are the more-than-thousand-year-old vessels (stunningly red-figured) and, not least, the hands from a mummy coffin.
Welcome to Stockholms Auktionsverk Sickla – a theme featuring many exciting items, one or more of which is sure to surprise!
