To celebrate Gothenburg's 400th anniversary, Stockholms Auktionsverk in Gothenburg now presents a jubilee auction featuring four theme auctions named Gothenburg Painting, Gothenburg School, East Indian, and Gothenburgiana. In total, there are over 200 auction lots.
As a very natural part of the jubilee, there is, of course, an auction dedicated to the exquisite craftsmanship that began to be shipped over by the East India Company's ships almost 300 years ago. Since then, the blue and white porcelain has been a significant feature in Gothenburg homes. Today, these items have long attracted collectors from around the world, especially China. At Stockholms Auktionsverk in Gothenburg, we are treated to several centuries of Chinese porcelain art. A tray in famille rose colors with contoured edges stands out from the crowd. So does the 45 (!) cm high pilgrim flask and a celadon glazed Ming dish. But the auction's main attraction is something entirely different. It is a pair of glass paintings with painted decorations depicting the factories in Canton along the Pearl River. In addition to the aforementioned, the auction features plates, vases, urns, and bowls, as well as a couple of examples of high-quality Japanese art pottery.
