Alexander Alkhovsky was born in 1947 to an artist's family when St. Petersburg was still called Leningrad. His father was a student of Isaak Brodsky and later taught at the Academy of Art himself. Alexander Alkhovsky studied at the well-known academy 'I. E. Repin' in St. Petersburg, where he subsequently also worked as a lecturer. Since 1996, the artist has lived alternately in Hamburg and St. Petersburg and now enjoys an international reputation. Most recently, the Worpsweder Kunstverein showed works by the artist in the 'Blaues Haus' exhibition hall. The Erarta Museum of Modern Art St. Petersburg showed a retrospective of his work in 2018, and in April 2023 a retrospective of Alkovsky's paintings from private collections was held at the 'Arts Square Gallery' St. Petersburg. The Russian Museum St. Petersburg owns the work 'Dock Workers' by Alexander Alkhovsky. His paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections and still show the influence of the Russian avant-garde of the early 20th century - especially the phase of Cubo-Futurism around Pavel Filonov, which still shapes Alkhovsky's work until today.
