Some may remember him from what came to be known as "The Wonderful Night." Rolf Wirtén, the then-Liberal Party budget minister, reached an agreement with the Social Democrats on tax policy in April 1981. But Wirtén also managed to be the Minister of Labor, Minister of the Interior, Minister of Economics, and Governor, all with a background as an elementary school teacher in Jönköping. On his 70th birthday, he established the Rolf Wirtén Cultural Prize to benefit the cultural life of Östergötland. At Gomér & Andersson in Linköping, we meet the collector Rolf Wirtén. In a theme spanning over 160 lots, carpets, jewelry, lamps, art, glass, and porcelain of the most varied kinds are crowded. In this smorgasbord of design and antiques, a light blue oil painting by Bo Beskow stands out, as does a quite substantial set of Koka blue dishes and a wristwatch by Vivianna Torun Bülow Hübe. But these are just three examples from a multifaceted world of both the grand and the small.
