On April 23 the streets are filled with books and roses, to celebrate the national day of the book and the festival of “Sant Jordi”, in Catalonia and Spain. On this special day, a book and a rose are given as gifts commemorating the story of Sant Jordi defending his beloved from the Dragon who, upon killing him, turned his blood into a rosebush of red roses, as a symbol of the triumph of love. At Barcelona Auctions we want to celebrate this day with a selection of parchment books from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. In our auction you can find a Cantoral from the 16th century or the book collection "DECISIONES CATHALONIAE" from the 17th century.
