The autumn’s first themed auction, Danish Figurines, presents an impressive collection featuring works by the Danish master Knud Kyhn, among others. We are delighted to showcase a large and varied selection of his characteristic animal figurines, ranging from powerful brown bears to rarer sculptures.
Kyhn possessed a unique ability to capture the natural movement, weight, and character of animals—from playful bear cubs and monumental elephants to powerful polar bears. His figurines were created in both porcelain and stoneware. His stoneware pieces are particularly renowned for their earthy, mottled "Sung glaze," which lends the sculptures a dramatic, organic, and vibrant quality.
