Art – A Selection is as straightforward as it sounds. The specialists at Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5 have handpicked works of art and now present them all under one banner. And to showcase the breadth of the selection, three of the theme's works are presented here.
Emma Toll's Reading Man is a little gem. Toll is an intriguing name from the era when Swedish artists began travelling to the French capital to absorb the latest plein-air currents. She exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1880–1881 and a few years later took part in the Nordic Industrial and Art Exhibition in Copenhagen.
A different climate awaits us in Anna Boberg's landscapes. In 1901 she travelled to the Lofoten Islands and was utterly captivated. There she dressed in sealskin furs and catskin trousers and painted the wondrous nature around her. And then there is Eva Bagge, who is said to have drawn inspiration from late 19th-century Paris, 17th-century aesthetics, and even Danish interior painting. Here we find a delightful still life with books and a violin, and right in the midst of it all, that parrot regarding us with an expression both demanding and almost surprised.
These, as mentioned, are merely three works from a wonderfully varied catalogue offering a great deal more. Welcome to Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5!
