Lennart Jacobsson (1923–2003) was a physician and professor of clinical chemistry, born in Lysekil and active within Swedish university medicine. His collection reflects a clear interest in art in which form, expression and intensity carry the greatest weight.
The collection was acquired largely during the 1950s and early 1960s. Here Swedish post-war modernism and European modernism meet, with works by among others Antonio Saura, Pierre Alechinsky, Albert Bitran, Evert Lundquist, Asger Jorn, Lennart Rodhe, Olle Bonnier, Bengt Lindström and Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd.
It is a collection chosen with the heart, where some of modern art's greatest international names are mixed with lesser-known but artistically compelling expressions.
The works were acquired directly from Galerie Blanche in Stockholm, a gallery that from 1947 onwards played a significant role in introducing international modern art to Sweden.
The collection encompasses both the restrained and contemplative and the more spontaneous and powerful. It is not built solely around the status of artistic careers, but around relationships between works, temperament and expression.
Part of Jacobsson's collection was sold when the family moved from Umeå to Uppsala in the late 1980s. Otherwise the collection is untouched and has never previously been offered at auction.
