Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5 takes us back to the time when decorative pewter transformed Swedish homes. Pewter had for some time been set aside, but artistic forces took on the material and – to borrow the terminology of museum man Arvid Baeckström – began to compose decorative objects in what might be called "artistic everyday wares". Beautiful objects for the home, perfect as gifts, executed in almost every style then in fashion. Swedish Grace, stripped-back Functionalism, Rococo and Baroque, and the occasional piece in a lingering Art Nouveau that refuses to quite give up.
Such is the menu. A spherical vase from Guldsmeds Aktiebolaget stands close beside Josef Nordh's graceful candelabras. A tobacco jar by Nils Fougstedt contrasts with Harald Nilsson's Functionalist vase. And in between, a little memorabilia from the Stockholm Exhibition of 1930.
