Black and white Swedish printmaking has fallen into obscurity. At some point, someone ought to pick up a print, blow away the dust and rediscover an art form worthy of prominent placement on any wall.
Just look at Harald Sallberg's utterly silent "Meditation", where the contemplation of a work of art within the work of art causes everything outside the room to come to a standstill, withdraw and disappear. Or Hans Johanson Norsbos's "ASEA 3", an industrial dream where the figures guide our gaze upward through the composition. But towards what?
And then there is Helge Zandén's "Sångaren", whose voice rings out with such force that the church windows rattle in their frames.
Three examples of forgotten treasures in a theme comprising no fewer than 115 lots. Among these are works by Anders Zorn, Knut Jansson, Stig Borglind and Harald Sallberg – in short, Axel Fridell and friends.
