With Art & Antiques XI – September, Crafoord Auctions once again plants its flag in the world of classical antiques.
With quality as the guiding thread throughout, the auction leads us through centuries of distinguished art, magnificent decorative objects, and of course, the occasional curiosity.
Among the paintings, we find two charming oils by James Raeburn Middleton, complemented by crisp winter motifs from established Swedish artists, as well as a moonlit landscape carrying all the atmosphere one could wish for in a 19th-century painting—complete with the obligatory castle ruin.
The pair of spiral-turned columns in the Scagliola technique could have been lifted straight out of a textbook on the subject, and are a true delight to behold. The same can be said of the faience potpourri urn from Marieberg, which in turn stands in striking contrast to the humble feeding troughs—objects whose simple beauty makes them a rare joy to encounter in an auction setting.
