Garpenhus is proud to present Ingvar Claeson's African Collection!
Art historian Ingvar Claeson (1939–2023) was a well-known figure on the southern Swedish art scene. From 1977 to 2004, he served as curator at Malmö Konsthall. Prior to that, he held equivalent positions at Kulturhuset and Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm.
His fascination with African ritual art began in connection with the 1986 exhibition “Africa – Source of Inspiration for Modern Art” at Malmö Konsthall. This interest later materialized into the collection now offered at auction.
The theme presents a variety of masks and figures, along with a drum. Additionally, the auction includes literature related to the field.
Welcome!
