Susie Cooper (1902 - 1995) is considered to be one of the foremost British ceramic designers of the twentieth century. Often called a pioneer of modern design, her work led the way in the changing tastes of domestic china wares. From her early lustre patterns, through bold shapes and colours of the Art Deco period, pale colours and streamlined shapes of the pre and post war period, to the abstract designs and colours of the 1960’s and 1970’s.
The following collection, to be sold in two parts, is the passion of one collector, and its scope and variety illustrates well how this ambitious female designer, bucked the trend of a traditional and conservative pottery industry, leaving a legacy appreciated by collectors today.
