Crafoord Auktioner in Stockholm presents 31 realistic acrylic paintings by visual artist Anders Udd. Over the past 10 years, Udd has been selective about showing his work, making this auction and exhibition a unique opportunity to explore his artistic practice. Anders Udd (b. 1958) grew up and still works in Stockholm. In the 1980s, he studied at Nyckelviksskolan, Idun Lovén Art School, and the Nordic Art School in Finland.
Udd’s work begins with his own photographs of cityscapes, nature, and interiors. The subjects are chosen based on a particular light or mood. During the painting process, all excess is stripped away, leaving behind frozen moments of presence, where the light falling on objects conveys both an everyday and profoundly mysterious quality. Often, a sense of silence and stillness emerges—as if waiting for something to happen, or in the moment just after something has passed.
Udd has received numerous grants from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, the Längmanska Cultural Foundation, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Selected solo exhibitions include: Galleri Bergman, Stockholm (1998, 2001, 2003); Lidingö Konsthall (2005); Galleri Final, Malmö (2007, 2014); Norrtälje Konsthall (2008); Pulchri Studio, The Hague (2009); Konstnärshuset, Stockholm (2011); Marks Konsthall, Kinna (2013). Selected group exhibitions include: “Contemporary Realist Painting,” Hässelby Castle (2002), Norrtälje Konsthall (2004), Vasa Art Hall, Finland (2010), Kunstzaal van Heijningen, The Hague (2010), and the Nordic Salon, Helsingborg (2014).
