"The Rolex watches of today have reached such heights of precision, accuracy, and ruggedness that it is difficult to predict what the watches of tomorrow will be like. Whether they will be in cases of titanium or solid synthetic diamond. Whether they will be powered by atomic energy or by the sun. But one thing is certain. The finest watches of tomorrow will be built by the men at Rolex."
This quote, taken from a Rolex advertisement, is almost 60 years old. At that time, the company had changed leadership, built a new office complex (just Google an image of it!), and was looking into the 1970s. A decade that would turn the watch industry upside down with new technology packed into affordable Japanese wristwatches. But Rolex weathered the storm and has since presented a remarkable array of new models. However, for some of us, the watches from the late 60s and all of the 70s are something special. At Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5, we get seven samples from that very era, and which one is your favorite? Well, that’s really just a matter of personal preference.
