Did you know that in his youth, he worked as a decorator at the PUB department store in Stockholm? In 1955, he enrolled at Konstfack, Sweden’s leading art and design school. After a few years there, he gravitated toward ceramics, studying under the legendary Stig Lindberg. But soon, glass took over completely—first at Boda, then Åfors, and finally Kosta.
Despite Sweden’s rich history of innovative glass artists, Bertil Vallien’s works remain instantly recognizable. His boats and heads have become iconic staples of Scandinavian art glass. And now, Crafoord Auktioner Lund presents 26 pieces by the world-renowned artist.
