A majestic Eurasian eagle-owl has made Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5 its temporary home, reigning over an extraordinary collection of 85 animal figurines—all crafted at Rörstrand’s porcelain factory. This highly cohesive auction showcases these small zoological masterpieces, which played a surprisingly significant role in the factory’s history. As documented in Bengt Nyström and Jan Brunius' detailed book on Rörstrand:
“Animal figures, cast and painted in modern underglaze colors, became a Rörstrand specialty. The foremost animal sculptor was Waldemar Lindström, but others contributed as well, including Alf Wallander, who designed the grebe and also created some female figures. Waldemar Lindström is said to have created models for around 160 different animals. Production ceased in 1926.”
At Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5, we encounter both native and exotic animals. A black swan could be considered Rörstrand’s noir touch, while Lindström’s pelican is fashioned in the purest white. An ashtray featuring a walrus emerging from icy waters was once a trendy item, much like the colors of Algot Eriksson’s reclining lion.
Welcome to a truly remarkable fauna collection!
