The opening of a book about the renowned Gustavsberg porcelain factory truly captures attention. As recounted by Gösta Arvidsson, the news of the factory’s potential closure in 1993 sent shockwaves through the community of Gustavsberg. This factory, founded in 1825, was not only a local business but the lifeblood of the area, producing both utilitarian and artistic ceramics that had gained national and international recognition.
In an upcoming auction at Stockholms Auktionsverk Sickla, around twenty examples of Gustavsberg's artistry are being presented, focusing on the artistic stoneware created during the mid-20th century. Highlights include Lisa Larson's iconic bulldog, a set of dinnerware by Gunnar Wennerberg, and pieces from masters like Berndt Friberg and Stig Lindberg. Friberg's mustard-yellow creation and Lindberg's perfectly egg-shaped, blue-gray vase are particularly notable, but so is Larson's rare "Susanna."
The auction presents a prime opportunity to explore the diverse range of products from this historic Swedish factory.
