Karlstad Hammarö Auktionsverk invites us to step through the door and enter A Merchant’s Home, thrown wide open for exploration. A sumptuous scene unfolds, with tables laden with decorative treasures, walls covered in art, and floors softened by an array of oriental rugs whose swirling patterns rest under juicy chandeliers dripping with prisms.
We begin along the walls, where no fewer than three enchanting watercolors by the master himself, Lars Lerin, steal the spotlight. However, Ture Ander’s Still Life with Lilacs is also worth a pause, as is the elegant gathering depicted in a colossal, decorative painting—perfect for a grand dining room. Navigating past Betty Boop, the ornate bar cabinet, and the late Gustavian chest of drawers reveals even more: striking lamps, bronzes, glassworks, and a rather extravagant candelabra, among much else.
