If one were to look up the letter D, as in Dahl Jensen, in an encyclopedia, they would find that it all began in 1925 when the Dahl-Jensen Porcelain Factory established itself in relatively modest premises just outside Copenhagen. However, one must go all the way back to 1874 to get the full story. That year, Jens Peter Jensen (from 1926 with the name Dahl-Jensen) was born. As the son of a cabinetmaker, it was natural for him to pursue a career in craftsmanship, and he became interested in working with wood at an early age. From 1894 to 1897, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, and the same year he graduated, he began working at the famous porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grøndahl. He remained there until 1917, and eight years later, he started his own production of porcelain figurines, a business that would continue long after his death.
At Crafoord Auktioner in Malmö, we now have the opportunity to become better acquainted with nine pieces from his catalog. They are all of excellent quality and clearly demonstrate Dahl-Jensen's sense of detail and color.
Welcome to a piece of Danish design and craftsmanship history at its best!
