Looking up at the ceiling in the 1960s could provide an extraordinary experience. The mature modernism of the post-war era had brought about a new type of architecture and new buildings, some of them brutalist in style. And they needed to be illuminated from within. Swedish leading manufacturers outdid each other annually with new monumental chandeliers of a kind that had not been seen before. In the middle of the decade, Fagerhults Elektriska Aktiebolag presented a new model that, thanks to a modular construction, could be offered in different sizes with simplicity. Gert Nyström was responsible for the ingenious design, which perhaps has not received the attention it deserves even today. At Växjö Auction House, we stand under six monumental Festival lamps, perfect for those longing for both light and design at the same time.
