"At that time, Jugend was a derogatory term at Konstfack. Back then, it meant something really awful. Personally, I was a little ashamed because I hadn't realized how bad Jugend was." This is how Gunnar Cyrén expressed himself about his time at Konstfack, the ideals and trends of the time, and the ability to relate to evaluative concepts such as modern and worthless. He already had a journeyman certificate as a goldsmith behind him. Therefore, the step to Hallbergs Guldsmeds AB after his years of education was quite natural. However, his time there was short-lived, followed by a stint at Markströms Guldsmeds AB before Orrefors reached out. The rest could, when editorial space is limited, be somewhat routinely described as history. But it may be appropriate to highlight the transition from a craftsman in the most literal sense of the word to a glass designer, a material that can only be handled once it is perfected in its intended form and cooled down, ground, painted, or otherwise processed. But for Gunnar Cyrén, this new discipline was by no means a hindrance but instead bestowed upon him a long career as a glass artist. And after pop glass and chandeliers for embassies around the world, his professional career was crowned with the task of designing the glassware for the Nobel Service. And now Växjö Auction House can present a theme entirely devoted to Cyrén's (and Nobel's) "Snapsdjävul"!
The auction is an excellent opportunity to complement your collection, perhaps start an entirely new one, or simply enjoy these small glass artworks.
Warmly welcome!
