In 1951, Irmgard Poppe came to Sweden as a so-called labor immigrant. Already in January the following year, she started working in the painting department at Gustavsbergs Porslinsfabrik. Naturally, it was a creative profession but in some respects, it could also be monotonous. The right arm on the workbench, the left hand operating the potter's wheel. It soon became quite strenuous, and Irmgard's work as a decoration painter was interspersed with stints as a guide at the factory. Her daily job also led to her becoming close friends with Berndt Friberg, Sven Wejsfeldt, Sven Jonsson, and Wilhelm Kåge. Some of the items presented here are gifts from these great figures. Others are pieces she received during her many years at the factory. One of the items in this theme, a dish from the Argenta series, was painted by her husband Franz Teply. He was also employed in the painting department before eventually ending up in the enamel department.
In total, the theme includes 90 lots. Among these, you'll find a significant number of vases and bowls by Berndt Friberg, a delightful bowl on a yellow base by Stig Lindberg, and Lisa Larson's magnificent Bulldog Maxi.
Welcome to a theme where the provenance offers us a snapshot of post-war Sweden and the aesthetics of the people's home that was daily manifested in the fired creations freshly taken out of the ovens in Gustavsberg.
