There is a street scene from Marseille in the collections of the National Museum. As viewers, we stand in front of a row of warmly yellow houses on Rue Cannebière. Naively depicted figures pass by. It is an oil painting signed by Anders Thyberg and dated -49. He would have turned 50 then and be in the midst of his professional career. He was born in Åmniskog in the last years of the 19th century. During the 1920s, he studied at the Valand School of Fine Arts with both Carl Wilhelmson and Sigfrid Ullman as teachers. This was followed by numerous study trips to various locations across Europe and a series of exhibitions in Sweden.
At the Lysekil Auction House, we encounter several aspects of his work. The evocative "Harspår" leads us into an almost abstract painting, while "Ballnäs Söndagsfrid" is a tranquil depiction of a peaceful community, in line with what Wilhelmson may have wished for. In total, 19 paintings by Anders Thyberg are presented. Welcome!
