Boda Smide began its operations in the 1960s through the blacksmith Axel Strömgren and the multi-talented artist Erik Höglund. Several designers started creating products for Boda Smide, with notable contributions from Bertil Vallien, Rolf Sinnemark, Björn Nyberg, and Kjell Engman.
The combination of glass and wrought iron became popular, and several manufacturers began producing these items. One such company was Mekaniska Fjädrar in Torsås, which, under the name "Torsmide," produced various wrought iron candlesticks with glass medallions during the 1970s and 1980s. Erland Larsson, who worked at Mekaniska Fjädrar and was a neighbor of Axel Strömgren, is thought to have been instrumental in the idea that Mekaniska Fjädrar would produce objects combining wrought iron and glass through "Torsmide." The glass components were reportedly sourced through Erik Höglund and Boda Glasbruk.
Among the 19 lots up for auction, you'll find items like chandeliers designed by Erik Höglund, a bull head sculpture by Bertil Vallien, and wall decorations in the form of birds designed by Kjell Engman.
