Purchased in Paris in the early 1930s at the artist's exhibition. Hence in inheritance within the same family. Sold at Auktionshuset Örebro, 2013-04-24. Cat. no. 200.
Claude Bernès, expert of Marie Vassilieff and Benoît Noël, co-author with Claude Bernès of the reference book prefaced by Erik Näslund on the artist : Marie Vassilieff (1884-1957) The artistic work - The painting academy - The canteen of Montparnasse (Éditions BVR, Sainte-Marguerite-des-Loges, 2017) sent us this text and authorized to reproduce it as a certificate of expertise : Portrait of a Parisian, oil on wood of 1931, is undoubtedly a work of the hand of Marie Vassilieff. It is typical of its way, of the thirties, of the elliptical drawing to the pictorial material smooth. The laying of the model, the dog and the details made up by the cherub, the cat, the couple of birds opposite and the embroidery of a bouquet are recurring motifs of the work painted at the time. The format and the support of wood are common with the artist and the writing on this wood on the reverse of the work is that of Marie Vassilieff. This portrait of a Parisian woman can be compared to that of Didier Cottoni with Toucka (1947) in a private collection.
